CBD Dosage: How Much CBD Should I Take?

So you've read about CBD oil and seen all the benefits it can have to your health. CBD is a very safe natural medicine, and you've decided to try it as a treatment.

You've done some research and found a and now you're asking how much you should take.

After all, taking the right amount is critical in treating your condition; too little, and it may not work for you. As noted in a World Health Organization (W.H.O) report in 2017

CBD is "generally well-tolerated with a good safety profile," so

it's unlikely you can overdose on CBD. But that's no reason to waste it and take too much. Also, there is a possibility it could interact with other medications, so seeking your doctor's advice is probably a good thing.

Figuring out how much CDB to take can be difficult; after all, CBD hemp oil is treated as a food supplement by FDA guidelines, so unlike with medicine, there is no scientific guide to the precise amount you should take.

While CBD hemp oil producers are legally bound to put a "suggested serving size" along with CBD content/concentration on the label, there is no guarantee that's the right amount for you. Much of the time, the "serving suggestion" is just an arbitrary number to satisfy the legal requiems with no real through to proper dosage for any given individual and their circumstances.

Looking at scientific research isn't too much help either, as studies on dosage cover a considerable range from 1 milligram to 1500 milligrams per day.

So let's look at how to find the best dose for your body and requirements.

What is the right amount of CBD?

CBD dosage can vary depending on several factors like weight, age, sex, and what condition you're treating. As you can't overdose on CBD, you can experiment with confidence. To aid you in finding the dosage that's right for you, we have put together this article to act as some baselines.

The most common dose for CBD is from 20gm to 40 mg per dose. Some people take as little as 1mg while others may take as much as 100mg. It's important to remember that the optimal dose will be different for everyone. Two people with the same weight, age, and medical conditions could respond very differently to the same amount of CBD. One may find relief from a 10mg dose, while the other may need 30 or 40mg to achieve the same results.

The best way to find the right dose is to start with a low dose and slowly increase it by 2 or 5 mg per dose until you find what works best for your circumstances.  To help adjust your dosage and find what works it can be helpful to keep a notebook of what dosage you take and when then write how you feel and how the dosage affected you.

CBD Dosage to Treat Pain

The CBD dosage for treating pain can vary a lot. For mild pain such as arthritis, PMS, or mild back pain, a low or medium dose of CBD oil should do the trick.

For severe pain such as cancer pain, nerve pain, or for treating multiple sclerosis, you may well need a higher dose of CBD oil.

CBD Dosage to Help You Sleep

CBD has been shown to help improve the quality and duration of sleep.

While a low dose of CBD oil (under 10mg ) can have a stimulating effect, higher doses ( 20mg or higher) have been shown to be more sedative.  Some CBD oils with sleep supportive terpenes like bisabolol, lavandin, myrcene, or finally can increase that sedative effect. There are also some CBD oils with melatonin, which are particularly good for promoting sleep.

CBD Dosage to Treat Depression

CBD oil has been used successfully for treating mood disorders such as depression.

However, because the underlying processes of depression often build over time, they can take some weeks or even months to treat.

It is best to start with a low dosage and slowly build to a moderate dosage over a few weeks. Once you have ascertained how the CBD is affecting your body, you can move to a heavier dosage if required.

CBD dosage to Treat Anxiety

Chronic stress, anxiety, or PTSD is normally treated with a medium to a heavy dose of CBD.  However, in some circumstances, individuals may find they are particularly sensitive to CBD, so they may only require a small dose.

It's best to start with a low dose and take it first thing in the morning; you may need a booster dose in the afternoon around lunch. Some people find taking CBD around 45 minutes prior to doing something that triggers their anxiety can be particularly helpful.
