How To Use a Marijuana Grinder?

For a common four-piece grinder:

1. Place nugs in the teeth of the grinder between the lid and grinder section. Avoid the center where the magnet pivots and remove any seeds and stems.

2. Grind down the nugs with about 10 rotations. At first, there will be some resistance, but then it will twist smoothly. All the bud will fall through the holes into the storage chamber.

3. Unscrew the grinder section and storage chamber to obtain the ground weed. Use it to pack a bowl or for rolling.

4. The screen in the third compartment or storage chamber is held in the ground cannabis, allowing kief to fall into the kief catcher at the bottom. You can also store weed for later in the storage chamber.

How To Collect Kief?

Kief can be scooped out and added to the top of bowls, pressed into hash, or infused into butter or oil. The best way to scrape kief out of a grinder is to use a kief scraper, which looks like a tiny putty knife about the size of a fingernail. You can also put a weight like a clean penny or nickel in the kief catcher to knock resin off the screen and into the kief catcher.

How To Clean a Sticky Weed Grinder?

You'll need to clean your grinder periodically as it becomes sticky with kiefy resin and is difficult to rotate.

1. Rub the sticky parts with a solution of isopropyl alcohol and salt.

2. Use a small brush such as a stiff-bristled paintbrush, toothbrush, or clean beard brush to knock loose kief from the screen.

3. You can also put your grinder in the freezer, which makes it easier to pick kief off. For extremely sticky grinders, especially cheap ones, it may be best to replace the grinder.

How To Break Up Cannabis If You Don’t Have a Grinder?

If you don't have a grinder or it's too gummed up, try these methods to break down your herb:

1. Hands: Can be used but is messy.

2. Keys: May work but can be uneven.

3. Scissors: A viable option but requires care.

4. Knife and cutting board: Can be effective but also messy.

5. Cheese grater: Can finely grind weed but are hard to clean.

6. Coffee grinder: A great way to finely grind weed if you're grinding a lot. However, keep in mind that weed is very sticky and whatever you use will also get sticky. Avoid using nice items or those you don't want to smell like weed. Cheese graters and coffee grinders are particularly difficult to clean of resin.
